CHALLENGE
Select a podcast episode and transcribe it to use in the design of a chapbook: a short-form, handcrafted publication designed to explore narrative through typography and physical form.
APPROACH
When I listened to the first episode of The Retrievals, a five-part series from Serial Productions and The New York Times, I felt enraged and deeply saddened. The women’s accounts were a haunting reflection of how the U.S. medical system failed them and continuously dismissed their pain. I selected this podcast as a personal design challenge, to represent the painful realities with restraint and respect. I paired intentional typography with abstract imagery that moves beyond the literal narrative, and explored the tension between emptiness and fertility.
